Folding Camping Chairs

Overview

One of the best things about camping chairs is their portability. When you’re planning a hike in the mountains, or even a busy car-camping weekend with the kids – space can be an important consideration. With so many camping chair options on the market today – why not choose a folding camp chair?

How does it fold?

When shopping for a folding camping chair, take a look at the way the chair folds. Does it fold in half? Does it compress into a rectangle or tube? Many folding chairs also come with cases for easy and quick storage. Most cases also have a carrying strap to make carrying the camp chair much easier.

How much does it weigh?backpackers

Consider how you will be using the folding camping chair the most. Will you be taking it with you on hikes, or just unloading it from the car? Will you take it with you to sporting events where you will need to carry it up several flights of stairs? For some, the weight of the camping chair can be an important consideration. An oversized padded chair with a side cooler will weigh around 10lbs.  On average, folding camping chairs will weigh in the neighborhood of 6lbs. If you’re looking for a lightweight camping chair, you may want to consider a camp stool, which will weigh 2lbs or so. The lighter the chair, typically the more features you will have to give up. Camp stools will be lighter than camping chairs, but they won’t have additional features like cup holders or extra pockets, not to mention a seat back which means that leaning back and lazily enjoying your morning cup of coffee will be a little less relaxed. Just as you would spend some time investigating the types of campers on the market, spend a little time thinking about what kind of camping char will suit you best.

Storage

One thing to keep in mind with any folding camping gear is to follow a few simple guidelines before you store it.

  • Make sure the folding camping chair is dry – if you pack up your chair and it’s wet, and put it in a nylon bag, there is a good chance it will mold or rot
  • Clean the camp chair before you fold it up – it will make for a more pleasant experience when you get it out the next time, plus it will keep the material in better condition if it is not stored dirty
  • Inspect the chair for damage or wear – better to know at the end of a trip if you need to repair or replace your chair, then when you bring it out on your next adventure.

Summary

Folding camping chairs are one of the better improvements on the whole camping chair concept. They are reasonably priced and are available with a wide variety of options.
