There’s an assortment of camping chairs on the market to meet your personal camping needs.  The choice you make has a lot to do with the type of camper you are. If you like to travel to the campgrounds with an RV, you may want to pick larger oversized quad chairs as you have the added convenience of transporting them by vehicle. If you like to hike, a lightweight portable type of chair such as a butterfly camping chair will no doubt be more to your liking.


The following information previews the various types of camping chairs to give you a better understanding as to the type and style that is most suitable for you.

Rocking Camping Chair

Rock away by the camp fire in this versatile chair that folds up for easy portability.  One of the most recent additions of camp chairs on the market, it offers the optimum in comfort.

Lounge Chair

If you like to take to the great outdoors in your RV, then a lounger is probably the folding camping chair for you. Although not highly portable for those who like to backpack, it is a nice chair to carry with you when you’re on the road.

Recliner

Lighter than loungers, recliners are more portable. Plus you have the opportunity to elect how much you wish to recline. You can choose to repose up to five positions with some recliners.

Loveseat

A double chair such as the loveseat camp chair is a nice accessory when traveling by RV, SUV, or similar modes of transportation.  Just make sure the chair can fit the sizes of all who sit on it.

Air Chair

An air chair is another name for a hammock chair. Normally you can suspend this type of camp chair from a tree branch or buy a stand for hanging the chair. Such chairs come in a variety of colors and are UV treated as well as waterproof. Most typically come with a footrest and cup holder.

Portable Deck Chair

This chair folds up for easy mobility, and is useful not only for camping but on the deck or patio as the name suggests. Some come with tables for added convenience.

Backpacking Chair

This chair is a favorite of hikers and backpackers alike. It can also be easily transported to the beach, to picnics and to sporting events and concerts. Many of these chairs feature an air mattress or cushion for extra comfort.

Quad Chair

This is one of the folding camp chairs preferred by many campers. This is one of those camping items that is a must have, much like a camping lantern. Several quad chair styles come with coolers as an added amenity. Others come with sunshade or an umbrella to make relaxing on a warm summer’s day even more rewarding.  The extra padding and larger size of some of these chairs gives settling in at your campsite a whole new meaning.

Mesh Camp Chair

This is a nice quad chair to add to your camping accessories.  The mesh fabric allows it to dry quickly, so it can hold up well against the elements.

Butterfly Camp Chair

The butterfly chair is a great chair for any backpacker because of its lightweight construction (under one pound) and nylon fabric. It’s usually well received at camp or when attending concerts.

Folding Stool

This type of folding camp chair serves a utilitarian purpose. Easily transportable and fairly light, it doesn’t offer the amenities of the other chairs with regards to comfort but if does provide the camper a practical way to sit and rest.

Besides the type of chair, several factors should be considered when purchasing any camp chair.  You’ll want to decide what chair weight and size is best for you as well its particular use. It’s also good to give forethought to any added accessories you’d like the chair to have, such as carrying case or bag, cooler, cup holder or sunshade. Make note of the construction as well.
